Real life Mac Gyverisms and more.

Playing with fire and light

Last week I was at the M’era Luna festival in Hildesheim, Germany and I got to see next to awesome acts like Marylin Manson some Fire Dancers at the medival market that is set up there each year.

I use a relatively simple camera. It’s a Nikon Coolpix S3100.

All I did was turn the stabilizer on, turned the flash off and deactivated the macro mode.

I was quite impressed with the results. See for yourself.

I F***ing love Sugru :D

Yep I just cannot emphasize enough just exactly how brilliant Sugru is.

It feels, handles and shapes its-self just like play dough. But when it has cured, it has all the awesome properties of rubber.

Car key

Just when you think you have run out of ideas, you find something else that can be fixed with it.

Gear-knob 2

So here are just a few of the things i used Sugru for.

Antenna seal

There seem to be no limits. 😀

Rubber feet

None at all. ^^

Ikea + Sugru = Awesome

Well another Birthday has come and gone. I’ve also had some vacation time. So now seems to be the ideal time to hack stuff.

My Sister bought this beginner Hookah for my birthday and I was looking forward to giving it a try.
But this particular model had an issue.

Red 1 hose hookah

As you can maybe see for yourself…

The most annoying thing is the base.
It is way too small. Either you have a lot of water but little smoke or you have a little water and lots of not too well filtered smoke.

So i decided to do a little Ikea-Hacking so this is what I bought.

1 “Lansa” Handle from ikea
1 “Hämta” carafe also from Ikea
1 5 grams packet of sugru (any color)

Tools required:
Pair of hands 😉
Small Metal files or a Drehmel with a diamond cutting disc

I began by placing my “Lansa” handle into a vice and cutting a 17 cm piece of pipe from it. I then deburred the sharp edges using the diamond cutting disk of my Proxxon mini drill.
I prefer Proxxon over a Drehmel because of their reliability.
Make sure it is all smooth.

With the edges nice and smooth I continued by connecting the tube to the stem of my hookah using 5 grams of Sugru. Extending the stem with an airtight and non toxic gasket.

After letting the Sugru cure for 24 hours (Keep it level using books or mags) I removed the original base grommet and replaced it with the grommet from the “Hämta” carafe. You will have to cut it down to size a bit. I used a nice sharp pair of scissors.

Now all that is left to do is to place it all on its new stylish hand made glass base. 😉

What a difference ^^

I’ll make a video of it in action as soon as I have time.^^

Feel free to leave me your feedback wherever you please.

And what about the parts that are left?

Just put them together. 😉

Now all you need is a cork and some string and you have a lantern for your table 😀

Keyboard Cardboard Table

Like I said in my last post, there is no limits as to what you can build.
I recommend however to add screws and support beams where needed.
There is only so much you can build with glue only.

The results however are awesome 😉

Your thoughts?

Cardboard tube furniture

In January I posted my first experiments using cardboard tubing.
See here.

Since then I have continued to find out more useful shapes for this mostly overlooked material.
Using only wood glue you can create almost any geometric shape to use as a stand for various purposes.
In my case I chose a triangular form.

This has proven to be quite useful with both my Speakers and my Printer.

I also got the impression that the stands made my Speakers got a little more resonant. Feel free to give me your Feedback in that matter. 🙂

I also tried to add paint to one of my bedside tables. If you like to add color I suggest you use a sponge paint roller and apply a base coat to the cardboard as it is absorbent and will make any discoloring or prints beneath visible if only the color is applied.

In the end you are only limited by your imagination as to what kind of furniture you can make.
How big can you go?
Find out in my next post 😉

Just add red

If you have household items that are either scratched or beige due to old age then you might want to try and apply a little spray paint to them.

Take these egg cups for example.

The chrome ones had heavy scratches and the plastic ones only look white with the camera flash on. 😉

A little paint does a neat job.

So think about it next time something in your household looks worn.

Custom sink plug

These things seem to be in fashion right now.

But I want something no one else has 😉

And there you have it.
Just need the paint to dry 😀
